Application Tips For University of Cincinnati

Tuesday 6th August 2019.

The University of Cincinnati is a co-educational public university in Ohio and is a part of the university system of the state. It was founded out of the efforts of benefactors like Dr. Daniel Drake and William Lytle, who suggested the foundation of a university in Ohio. The University was formed when the estate of Charles McMicken willed funds to the city to build a university. This led to the absorption of the Cincinnati College, followed by the Medical College of Ohio and the Miami Medical College to form the Ohio-Miami Medical Department of the University. It later absorbed the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music in 1962. The school was later recognized as one of the state's universities in 1977. It is now composed of several colleges, among them the College of Allied Health Sciences, McMicken College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, and the College-Conservatory of Music.

The University of Cincinnati was placed 156th in world rankings in the 2011 US News and World Report. It is also classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a "research university" because of its high research activity.

Admission tips

The University puts a lot of importance on the unweighted GPA in considering admissions, so for students who are not capable of getting As in honors and AP courses, they should take regular courses if they can do better in them. The school often does not look into the complexity of the curriculum. Admission requirements differ from college to college. For example, you will need to present your portfolio if you want to enroll into the Art & Design department, or audition if you are enrolling in the College of Performing Arts. Extra-curricular activities are also greatly appreciated by the admissions panel.
